Project Team
Architect: Solstice
Engineering: Hazelwood Engineering

In 2022 Solstice was approached by two building-science enthusiasts who were looking for a unique collaboration to bring a long-time vision of theirs to reality. The owners came to our team with a preliminary concept, and a detailed list of specific criteria they were seeking for a truly high performing home that they planned to build primarily themselves on their spacious and rural upper-Midwest property.

Our team worked with the owner-builders to refine the concept, develop energy models, create architectural documentation and coordinate the various complex portions of the project (i.e. indoor pool room details and unique structural connections and insulation details to name a few). This beautiful home is designed to target Passive House specifications for maximum comfort, durability and energy efficiency.

Precast foundation walls, super-insulated walls and roofs, airtight construction, triple pane European-style windows and some of the highest efficiency HVAC systems on the market all contribute to the home's performance. Construction details were also considered to enable the owners to self-perform much of the work themselves on a flexible timeline.

From the beginning, this Passive House home has been an exciting collaboration for the entire project team, as well as a devoted effort to dial in each area of the home down to the high performing systems and structure.

This project is well into the construction phase, and we’re excited to continue sharing updates about this wonderful home as the build progresses. Check back for updated photos in the below gallery as the build progresses.
