Lone Peak

The Lone Peak project is a primary suite and dining room addition, with focused remodel area, to an existing unreinforced masonry home in Salt Lake County, Utah, named for the iconic peak that anchors the views from the property, designed to help a growing family stay in the home and neighborhood that they love.

The owners came to Solstice in early 2025 seeking a solution, as they had outgrown their space and were ready for a refresh. One of the owners came to the project with an architecture school background, which has made for a fun and engaged collaboration from the start. The goal was to add functional square footage in a way that felt considered rather than tacked on, while preserving as much of the spacious backyard as possible, a space the family uses frequently throughout most of the year.

The addition is compact but deliberate. The new primary suite gives the owners the private space they needed, and the expanded dining room, that connects to the kitchen, opens directly to the backyard, exactly right for summer evening gatherings. The added space connects minimally to the existing unreinforced masonry structure, a decision that allowed us to avoid more substantial retrofitting. Materials were selected to complement the existing masonry and the surrounding neighborhood while still bringing something fresh.

The permitting process required multiple planning approvals through Salt Lake County MSD, an extended process that called for patience and persistence. It was successfully navigated, and construction is now well underway.

This project is a good example of what solid collaboration between owners, architect, interior designer, engineers, and builder makes possible. Working within a defined budget, the team checked as many boxes as possible without compromising on quality or design integrity.
